Sports MassageSportspeople know only too well that muscular imbalance can mean serious trouble. Muscular imbalance distorts alignment and sets the scene for undue stress and strain on joints, ligaments and muscles and often creates substitution movements. Muscle testing is an integral part of physical examination of sportsmen and women to determine the extent of imbalance. The underlying purpose of treatment is to restore and maintain appropriate range of motion, good alignment and muscle balance. The sports therapist is experienced at determining muscle length and strength; essential so the sportperson knows whether to stretch short muscles or strengthen weak muscles.
“Massage is often under-rated and under-utilized as a therapeutic procedure. When applied correctly, it can be very effective in the management of musculoskeletal conditions…. Relief of symptoms is sometimes almost immediate, confirming the appropriateness of this approach.” |
