APPROACH TO PERFECT POSTURE AND HEALTH - SPINAL TOUCH

When the body is in alignment it is at its most efficient

This is because, in any structure  when all parts are correctly aligned, the centre of gravity runs directly through the centre in the direction of the earth’s gravitational pull. The body’s centre of gravity is at the junction between the lowest vertebrae and the sacrum. It is a dynamic fulcrum and when we are balanced we are able to move with maximum efficiency and less strain. For this to happen, the sacrum must be correctly aligned.

Unfortunately life tends to throw us out of balance, injuries, repetitive tasks, long hours sitting at a terminal, unbalanced training and stress can create muscle tension which creates postural anomalies and pulls us out of balance. The result is pain, tiredness, poor mood and disease.

Alignment across a fulcrum

creates balance

Why is posture so important?

Consider how tiring it is to stand still for an hour and yet how easy it is to walk for an hour.

When in motion our muscles contract and then relax before contracting again. As muscles work they burn energy in the form of glycogen a by product of this is acidic toxins which are removed from the muscles by the circulatory system when the muscle relaxes. Thus we constantly burn energy and clear toxins as we move. A lot of work without a rest phase causes toxins to build up. Thus when we stand still muscles work without rest and toxins build up causing fatigue even though we seem to be doing very little. This applies to all tissue, consider the heart which works constantly for a lifetime, it takes a rest between every beat and is the first organ to receive cleansed blood that it pumps.

This example illustrates how toxins will build up if our body is out of balance and our muscles are forced into constant contraction to stabilise a distortion.

To take our simplified model a little further consider that these poor toxic overworked and aching muscle with it’s congested circulation, inflammation and screaming nervous system might effect the organs sharing this system. Sharing the toxic load and poor circulation they too can become diseased and so affect others in the system.

Posture affects organs in a far more direct way

  • Compression of the thoracic cavity can lead to problems with the lungs, heart and diaphragm.
  • Forward flexion of the neck can lead to allergies, headaches, sinusitis, tonsillitis and asthma,
  • Viceropppptosis (sagging of the visceral organs) can lead to, diabetes, colitis, ulcers and gall bladder disease.
  • Pelvic rotations can interfere with function of the female organs, prostate, low back and lower extremities.
  • Chronic muscle spasms can cause problems with the endocrine glands (immune system) lymphatic system and can lead to blood disorders.

Lets Consider the Diaphragm in more Detail

It is a major muscle with 4 important structures running through it,

  1. The oesophagus through which food passes,

  2. The aorta which carries blood from the heart,

  3. The inferior vena cava which carries blood to the heart.

  4. The thoracic lymphatic duct which is the main highway for carrying large numbers of white blood cells, especially lymphocytes, and occasionally a few red blood cells.

These are not systems that you want interrupted or reduced in efficiency at all!

Maintaining Balance

A body without the stress of distortion is more efficient at maintaining homeostasis. (The process by which an organism maintains the constant internal conditions necessary for life) Free of pain in disease it can be a jolly place.

Unfortunately our lifestyle often sets us out of balance. We often sit or rather slouch back on our sacrum encouraging it to slowly tilt too far under our body. Long hours in front of a terminal encourages the shoulders to fall forward and constricts the chest. Improper advice like stand up straight and pull your shoulders back. Fashion- which encourages the wearing of heels, a sucked in abdomen.”.go for that 6 pack guys!” Training and repetitive sport without competent coaching to redress muscular imbalances. Driving. Pregnancy and carrying children are just some of the things that can throw us out of balance. Not too mention the damage we can do to our musculature by alkalising our bodies with  poor diet( don’t get me started on that scenario)

Our lifestyles have changed so much faster than evolution can possibly adapt our bodies.

The body is an incredible self healing and self correcting system.

It is important to remember that we have an inbuilt ability to self repair. The body continually works to balance and heal itself. A broken bone is not mended by a physician, he may set it correctly and in doing so guide the healing system but the body with correct nourishment does the healing.

A spinal touch practitioner works to this same principle. The body is relaxed into a condition where the brain is able to be alerted to the direction of correction required, it is encouraged by its own positive feedback and does it’s own adjustment without interference or violent adjustment from the practitioner.

Free from the inhibition of postural distortion and the effect this has on all the other body systems the body’s innate self healing can restored allowing better health, well being and energy throughout.

Spinal Touch

is a gentle effective technique that restores postural alignment

by gently correcting the body’s centre of gravity at the sacrum.

A light touch alternative to manipulation.
